Joy-Con are compact controllers that work well in handheld mode, but they’re not always comfortable for long gaming sessions.
Because of their small size and unusual shape, they can cause hand fatigue or even pain.
Alternatives:
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller — a larger and more ergonomic gamepad suitable for long play sessions. Supports vibration, gyroscope, and NFC.
Hori Split Pad Pro — full-size “halves” of a gamepad that attach to the console instead of Joy-Con.
Thicker and more comfortable, especially for bigger hands (but lacks gyroscope, vibration, and NFC).
8BitDo Pro 2 — a third-party controller compatible with Switch, offering button remapping and a comfortable design.
PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller — a more affordable alternative to the Pro Controller with good ergonomics.
For handheld mode, you can use ergonomic grips or attachments for the Switch that make Joy-Con easier to hold.
