My LG F4V3VYWKPE Washer Smells Like Burning Plastic and Support Blames Detergent
I’ve been using the LG F4V3VYWKPE 9 kg 1400 RPM washing machine for about 1.5 years, and I’m extremely disappointed. Every time it runs—especially when I walk into the bathroom mid-cycle—there’s a strong burning plastic or melted rubber smell. It’s sharp and unpleasant, and it happens consistently.
I contacted LG’s authorized service, and their explanation left me stunned. They claimed it was caused by using liquid detergent and fabric softener at low temperatures (30–40°C). According to them, the softener sticks to the inner drum and burns during cycles, creating that awful smell. Their suggested solution? Wash at 80–90°C without softener and only with powder detergent, at least once a month.
Honestly, if the machine is this sensitive, it should have come with clear warnings like “not compatible with liquid detergent or softeners under 80°C.” I chose LG for its supposed quality, but I now feel misled and frustrated.
