Gotogate Won't Refund My Flight Despite the Airline Approving It
Through Gotogate, on April 4, 2026, I purchased round-trip plane tickets for Istanbul–Seoul and Seoul–Istanbul, including meal service, paying a total of $833. On Friday morning, May 22nd, shortly before my flight, I received an email from Qanot Sharq, the airline I had booked with, stating that my flight had been cancelled. When I went to the airport as a result, I was told the flight hadn't been cancelled but postponed, and since it was a connecting flight, I would definitely miss my connection and would need to buy a new ticket in the transit country. Because of this, I was forced to purchase a new ticket.
Afterward, my flight was postponed several more times and was ultimately cancelled entirely. When I spoke with the airline, I was told a full refund could be issued to me. However, when I contacted Gotogate, I was told that the airline hadn't approved the refund. The airline, on the other hand, stated repeatedly that it had approved the refund. Despite this, I never received any refund whatsoever and was left in a difficult position. In my most recent conversations with Gotogate, I was told the matter was "under review," which dragged the process out, but no concrete action was taken.
On May 29, 2026, I experienced similar problems on my return flight, this time with China Eastern, and once again I was forced to buy a new ticket. Due to all these cancellations and postponements, in addition to my original round-trip ticket payment, I paid approximately $1,822 more for the tickets I subsequently had to purchase. Despite this, Gotogate has not refunded any of the amounts I paid due to the cancellations caused by either Qanot Sharq or China Eastern, and has provided no explanatory response despite the reports I made through live chat.
I am registered with Gotogate under the name Zeynep B****** with reservation number 1129-703-556. Given that the airlines approved a full refund during this process, I am requesting that all amounts I paid — including the initial $833 payment — as well as all the additional ticket costs I was forced to bear due to the cancellations, be refunded to me in full and without delay, and that the hardship I've experienced be resolved.
