Gemini Pro Update Locks Users Out With Repetitive "Guidelines" Messages

June 1 11:40 AM

I'm a Pro subscriber on the Android version of the Google Gemini AI app, paying $21 a month for the subscription. After the most recent update, which came out about a week ago, the app has completely lost its ability to function as an AI assistant and has turned into a useless autopilot-like system that keeps looping the same English "guidelines" text over and over, almost as if mocking the user. Even when I ask a simple, everyday, or academic question, the system responds with an automatic blocker under the name of "guidelines." Even basic conversations get locked up because of these so-called "ethical" filters, and instead of actually helping me, the app keeps trapping me in a constant loop of system errors and refusals. It throws out context, unrelated restrictions like "I can't depict children" or "I can't do that due to policy," and has turned into something that doesn't communicate properly with users at all. The advanced analysis, project support, and operational assistance features that were promised when I purchased the Pro subscription have effectively disappeared with this update. The service I'm paying for is being systematically denied, which clearly goes against the level of service promised in the subscription agreement. Even developer mode or more open, natural conversation formats get locked into this same autopilot behavior — the app functions less like an AI assistant and more like a frustrating mechanism that just stalls the user. When I try to get support through the system about these issues, I keep running into the same autopilot, templated messages, with no concrete solution or real human support offered. A piece of software that's supposed to help users, but instead keeps blocking them under the guise of policy, both sabotages the user experience and creates a serious problem given what I'm paying for it. For these reasons, since I feel I'm not getting what I'm paying for under my Pro subscription, and I believe the system has been deliberately restricted with this update, I'm requesting either that these AI restrictions and autopilot filters be removed and the app's promised functionality be restored, or that my Pro subscription fee be refunded to resolve the situation. Otherwise, I want to state that I'll formally escalate this matter to the relevant consumer arbitration committees and digital platform oversight authorities.
