FIFA Red Card Decision Needs a Clear Explanation

I am writing to file a formal complaint to FIFA regarding the disciplinary decision made after the USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina match played on July 1, 2026. In this match, a United States player received a red card, and despite this, was then allowed to play in the following game, which I consider to be a clear violation of the long-established automatic one‑match ban that follows a straight red card in World Cup tournaments. For as long as World Cup football has existed, the rule and practice have been that a player who is sent off with a red card is automatically suspended for at least the next match. Allowing this particular US player to participate in the subsequent game gives the strong impression that this clear and simple rule has been bent or “magically” changed for one team or one individual. This undermines both the consistency of the Laws of the Game and the credibility of FIFA’s disciplinary system. I am deeply concerned that such an exception creates the appearance that politicians, money and corruption can influence decisions that should be governed only by the rules of football. If rules can be ignored or altered for certain players or teams, then their purpose is destroyed and the entire integrity of the tournament is put into question. I request that FIFA provide a clear and transparent explanation of the legal and regulatory grounds on which this player was allowed to play the next match despite receiving a red card, and that FIFA thoroughly review this decision. I also expect FIFA to take any necessary steps to ensure that political influence, financial interests and any form of corruption play no role in disciplinary decisions, and that the automatic suspension after a red card is applied consistently and fairly to all teams and players.
