BMW Refused to Cover Faulty Sensor on My i4 eDrive40 Under Warranty
On 02.08.2024, I purchased a 2024 model i4 eDrive40 vehicle from Özgörkey Otomotiv. After about four months, the vehicle displayed a "limited parking assistance" warning and a constant notification on the screen stating that the sensors were dirty and needed cleaning. I took the vehicle to BMW's authorized service at Otomol and was given the earliest available appointment. By the end of the same day, they informed me that a stone had hit the sensor on the front bumper, disabling all sensors and causing the parking assistance to stop working. They stated this issue was not covered under warranty and could be repaired for approximately ₺11,000, including parts and labor. As I urgently needed the vehicle, I reluctantly agreed to the repair to get it back quickly. It is disheartening to pay millions of liras for a new BMW vehicle expecting peace of mind, only to be charged for repairs because a stone hit a sensor. Moreover, the repair cost for just one sensor is significantly higher than market rates. The vehicle shows no signs of impact, rubbing, or any external damage. It is unacceptable for BMW to use sensors that cannot endure even minor stone marks and then classify this as user error. Additionally, if a stone hits one sensor, why should the other 11 sensors stop functioning? If a sensor is broken, the system should provide a specific warning indicating the faulty sensor rather than displaying a misleading "sensors are dirty, clean them" message. This undermines the brand's technological reputation. I am deeply dissatisfied with this situation and demand that the fault be repaired free of charge under warranty or as part of customer satisfaction. I do not accept this as a user error, and as a long-time BMW customer, I have lost trust in the brand.
I would like to thank the Borusan representative who immediately contacted me regarding my complaint and the Automol Customer Service Representative who then got in touch with me in an extremely polite and solution-oriented manner to offer a resolution.
