Azal Airlines Charged Unfair Baggage Fee Despite 10 Kg Allowance
On 5 December, on my Baku–Ankara flight at 18:10 with Azal, I was forced to pay an unfair baggage fee at the check-in counter at Baku airport. At the counter, a dark-haired woman and a blond man, whose names I do not know, demanded an extra baggage fee from me, even though I already had a 10 kg baggage right and my baggage did not exceed 10 kg. They clearly stated that if I did not pay, they would not let me pass, so although I did not accept this unfair situation, I had to pay 138.80 AZN. The most upsetting part for me was that a lady sitting next to me on the plane told me she had experienced the same situation but insisted that it was within her baggage right, refused to pay and, after an argument, was allowed to pass without paying. I, on the other hand, tried not to lose my respect, I am a university student and I gave them my last money just to be able to board the flight. I find it extremely hurtful and unacceptable that I was treated differently and unfairly while someone else in the same situation was allowed to pass without payment. I request that the 138.80 AZN taken from me for baggage be fully refunded and that the staff at the Baku airport check-in counter involved in this incident be investigated. I want an explanation as to why I was subjected to this unfair treatment and I expect this injustice to be rectified.
