Austrian Airlines changed my flight schedule last minute, what are my refund options?

If Austrian Airlines changed your flight schedule last minute, you have a few clear refund and compensation options depending on how big the change is and where your flight falls under EU passenger rights.

Under EU Regulation 261/2004, if your flight is cancelled or significantly changed, you can choose a full refund of your unused ticket (and unused parts of your itinerary) instead of accepting the new schedule.

This applies whether you booked directly or through an agent, and the ticket refund covers the fare plus taxes and fees paid.

Alternatively, you can request re-routing at the earliest opportunity or at a later date that suits you, at no extra cost to keep your trip intact.

If the disruption meets EC 261 conditions and the cancellation/change wasn’t due to extraordinary circumstances, you may also be entitled to compensation of €250 – €600 per passenger on top of the refund or re-routing choice, depending on flight distance and delay impact.
