Apple App Store Charged Me $25 While I Was Using Duolingo Free
While using the Duolingo app on my iOS device, I was charged $25 through the Apple App Store on September 12, 2026, at 10:10 PM, without seeing any confirmation screen or knowingly agreeing to start a subscription. I was simply trying to use the free version when I suddenly noticed that this amount had been charged to my credit card. I only discovered the charge because I personally checked my account after becoming suspicious that something might have happened.
Approximately five minutes after noticing the charge, I immediately canceled the subscription through the Apple App Store. I also requested a refund from both Duolingo Support and Apple Support, and the status of the transaction currently shows as under review on both sides.
I never knowingly, voluntarily, or explicitly approved this subscription or payment at any stage. I do not accept this $25 charge, which was made without my express consent or authorization, and I believe this situation has clearly caused financial harm to me as a customer.
I therefore request a full refund of the amount charged and the complete cancellation of the subscription. If the charge is not refunded or a reasonable and satisfactory resolution is not provided, I expressly reserve my right to exercise all legal rights available to me as a consumer. I will also submit the necessary complaints to the relevant consumer authorities and other competent institutions and initiate any legal proceedings necessary to recover the financial loss I have suffered.
I request that my complaint be reviewed without further delay, that the full $25 charge be refunded, and that I be provided with written confirmation of the outcome.
