Airbnb's Lengthy Process, Upfront Payment For A Non-Reserved Room !!!
We decided to go to Bozcaada on short notice and made a reservation through Airbnb while on the road. This booking experience turned out to be a complete disaster. I've been an Airbnb customer for years, but now they've implemented KYC authentication, which took me a frustrating 15 minutes to upload my credentials due to the slow application. I entered my credit card information for the hotel we found, called Vita Longa Bozcaada, thinking the room was available. After working through the booking process for 10 minutes and making the payment, the reservation remained pending. About 30 minutes to an hour later, the hotel owner called and informed us that someone else had made a reservation over the phone and that he was trying to reach them. We patiently waited for updates for 15 minutes. Then the owner called us back and canceled our reservation, stating that the other person had confirmed their arrival. This left us without a hotel at 8 pm after an hour and a half of struggle and waiting. Airbnb shamelessly charged my credit card without confirming whether the room was actually available or not. What added to our frustration was the fact that the other customer was prioritized over us, even though we had already paid and contacted the hotel owner to confirm the reservation, while the other customer hadn't made any payment and didn't respond to the hotel's calls initially. This favoritism seemed to be because the other customer was a direct customer, while we booked through Airbnb, and the hotel owner had to pay a commission to Airbnb. Dealing with such a disrespectful hotel owner was bad enough, but the main issue here is that Airbnb failed to protect its customers. This experience made me question whether I would ever use Airbnb again. Next time, I'd rather call the hotel directly, avoiding the slow KYC process, upfront payment for an unconfirmed room, and the risk of last-minute reservation cancellations by the owner.
