Airbnb Canceled My Reservation Hours Before Check-In Leaving Me Stranded
Airbnb canceled my reservation just 12 hours before check-in with a simple “sorry!” I had booked nearly a month in advance to attend the Düsseldorf medical fair. Days later, I was informed that the reservation was canceled because the host didn’t approve it, likely due to receiving other requests at a better price. This was my first experience with this approval process. I wasn’t even aware it was possible. By then, most options were already booked, and I had to rebook at rates 40 percent higher. My original reservation was ₺10,000—canceled. My second was ₺14,000—also canceled. Now, as the fair approaches, my only choices are listings at ₺35,000 and ₺42,000, while Airbnb offers me a mere ₺800 credit. If I cancel 12 hours before, I’d lose my entire payment, but when they cancel, I’m given ₺800 as compensation. I even called customer support, desperately requesting a small discount to help with the new, skyrocketing rates. I spent hours anxiously checking my phone, hoping for a response as my flight neared. I finally called customer service, thinking the issue would be resolved faster by phone, only to find the third option I’d hoped for was gone. I was on the brink of a heart attack from the stress. I ended up canceling my flight with a penalty and missing out on the business trip I’d been preparing for for months. I will never use Airbnb again. Those who trust this platform are left stranded with no support. I don’t want anyone else to go through this awful experience. My hands are still shaking with anger.
