Agoda Refund Rejected After Unsafe Hotel Entrance And Dogs Issue

On 27 December, I made a one-night reservation at Büyükçekmece Doğa Villa Konuk Evi via the Agoda app and paid in advance. Despite having paid, I did not stay at the property, and my payment has not been refunded. When we arrived at the hotel, there were many dogs right in front of the entrance. As we approached by car, the dogs started barking, followed the car, and walked around it. This situation continued even after I stopped the car. When I tried to get out, the dogs were still at the entrance, and I did not feel safe at all. Because of this, we were unable to complete the check-in process and decided to leave the property without entering. Approximately 30 minutes after making the reservation, while we were still in front of the hotel, I called the property and requested a cancellation. During this phone call, I was told that it would not be a problem since I had informed them quickly, but that they could not approve the cancellation in the system and that I needed to contact Agoda. Despite this, my refund request was later rejected, with the explanation that I had not contacted the hotel to ask for help about the dogs at the entrance. I find it unacceptable that a guest is expected to “ask for help” just to be able to enter the hotel because of dogs at the entrance. For a hotel, the entrance and its surroundings must be safe, clean and comfortable as a basic condition. Requiring a guest to face such a situation and then request assistance simply to access the property is, in my opinion, unreasonable and unacceptable. In addition, about five minutes after making the reservation, during a phone call, I was informed that proof of marriage would be required for my wife and me to stay. Although this was not a practical problem for us personally, as I was traveling with my wife, I consider the demand for a marriage certificate as a condition of accommodation to be legally problematic. Turkey is a country governed by the constitution and laws, and personal or religious beliefs cannot be imposed on guests by a commercial enterprise. As a result, I request a full refund of the amount I paid via Agoda, a formal apology for this experience, and a review of this property and its practices by the relevant authorities. I also ask Agoda to thoroughly re-evaluate or, if necessary, remove this property from the platform to prevent similar situations for other guests.
