Wizz Air Charges €70 After Misleading Passenger About Baggage

On January 3, 2026, during my Wizz Air flight departing from London Luton Airport, I experienced a serious issue regarding baggage fees. For my return flight to the U.K., I had already purchased an additional 20 kg checked baggage allowance online and paid €40 in advance. When I arrived at the airport and went to the check-in counter, the agent told me that my bag was small and that I did not need to check it in if I didn’t want to. Trusting this guidance, I chose not to check my bag.

However, when boarding the aircraft, my bag—which weighed 8 kg—was inspected at the gate and deemed non-compliant with size restrictions. I was then required to pay an additional €70 fee. Being advised at check-in not to check my bag, and then being charged again at boarding for the same bag, felt misleading and unfair. I believe this is not a coincidence but a systematic practice that results in passengers being taken advantage of.

After this incident, I contacted Wizz Air customer service, but I was told that the fee I paid would not be refunded. Despite already paying €40 for extra baggage, I was charged an additional €70 for the same bag at the gate, which I find completely unacceptable.
