Threads Shows My Profile Photo Under Accounts Without Pictures

I experienced a very uncomfortable and embarrassing situation because of the way profile photos are displayed in Instagram’s Threads app. I saw my own profile picture displayed beneath an account that had no profile photo, and I assumed that the other person was using my picture without permission. As a result, I confronted the person and said, “Remove my photo or I’ll sue you.” I nearly ended up in a legal dispute over this misunderstanding. Only after checking other profiles without profile pictures did I realize that this display was actually part of Threads’ own design.

The way the app works can cause users to feel embarrassed in social situations and create unnecessary tension. I believe this design, which displays a user's own profile picture beneath accounts that have no profile photo, is misleading and incorrect. I request that Threads urgently change the way profiles without profile pictures are displayed and fix this issue so that users are not led into similar misunderstandings in the future.
