Swatch Discontinued Original Metal Strap for My YRS416 Ice Border Watch
I visited the Swatch dealer in Ankara Ankamall Shopping Center to replace the worn metal strap of my Swatch Ice Border - YRS416 model watch, which I purchased approximately 10 years ago. There, I learned that the original metal strap for my watch is no longer produced, leaving only a black leather strap option available. I did not expect to see a brand like Swatch discontinue the strap for a product of its own design in such a short period, especially without offering alternatives for a non-standard design.
Out of necessity and reluctantly, I was forced to purchase the remaining black leather strap. However, due to the unique design of this watch, it is impossible to simply buy a generic strap from any local jeweler and fit it. This situation creates the impression that Swatch anticipates its watches will no longer be supported within 10 years, failing even to supply a basic component like a strap. Right now, I have a watch that I know will wear out again, but I have no idea what I will do when its strap degrades.
Today, I communicated this situation via email to c******@swatch.com.tr. In their reply, they stated that a search for the steel strap was conducted across all stocks in Türkiye and abroad, but because the model year is 2009, steel strap inventory has been exhausted and discontinued, leaving only the leather strap available. This response remains entirely inadequate and evasive regarding my grievance; no sustainable solution is offered for a model I have used fondly for years.
I demand that Swatch reproduce or procure the original metal strap for my Ice Border - YRS416 model watch. If this is not possible, I request that leather straps be provided to me free of charge throughout the operational lifespan of the watch; if that cannot be done either, I request that my watch be recalled and the amount paid be refunded to me. I expect a half-century-old brand to stand behind its own product and deliver a lasting solution that does not victimize its customers.
