I’ve been a regular at Starbucks, purchasing a mocha almost daily. However, today’s experience was unacceptable. The usual blonde cashier had to prepare the coffee due to the absence of a barista. As someone with barista experience myself, I noticed several mistakes.
She dipped the milk frother directly into the milk and didn’t add espresso to my mocha. Initially, I didn’t notice because of the whipped cream, but when I tasted it, it was lukewarm and only had a milk flavor. Upon opening the lid, I saw a pale mixture that resembled ayran, not mocha.
I returned to address the issue, but she insisted the machine made the coffee and I needed to stir it. Showing her the color, I pointed out this was far from a proper mocha. Another staff member whispered something to her, and she replied “no.” When they finally handed me a replacement, it was evident they’d added hot chocolate instead of espresso, making it clear they were avoiding putting coffee in it altogether.
After paying ₺115, I ended up with warm milk, which I couldn’t even drink due to frustration. I threw it away and left. Mistakes happen—we’re all human. But blaming customers and offering subpar service is unacceptable. I’ll think twice before returning to Starbucks.
