Sephora Employees Caught Insulting Customer in Perfume Section

I was deeply disappointed by an incident I experienced on February 4 at around 4:30 PM at the Sephora Nişantaşı store, which I visit frequently and which is located near where I live in Nişantaşı. Until that day, it had been a store I enjoyed visiting; however, after this incident, I have begun to seriously question the store’s culture and its approach to customers.

While browsing the perfume section, I witnessed male employees talking among themselves about a female customer who had just looked at perfumes and left. Believing that no one could hear them, they spoke very casually and used extremely disrespectful language, including insults and heavy profanity, to mock and belittle the customer. One of the younger male employees said something beginning with “it was obvious she wasn’t going to buy anyway…” followed by profanity, while another continued with remarks like “why are you dealing with her for three hours, just let her go,” again using offensive language. There were many other vulgar and disturbing expressions that I cannot fully repeat here.

I was truly shocked when I heard these conversations and was not even in a state to react at that moment, which is why I did not speak to a manager in the store at the time. However, after reflecting on the situation, it deeply upset me to realize that if employees can speak this way behind one customer’s back, they may very well do the same behind ours. I seriously question how such language and behavior can align with this brand’s store culture and business ethics.

For this reason, I request that a proper investigation be conducted regarding the employees working in the perfume department, that it be clearly communicated to all staff that this kind of disrespectful behavior is absolutely unacceptable, and that all employees receive serious training in customer communication and professional ethics. I also expect a clear and written response regarding this complaint.
