I Face Flight Cancellation on Qatar Airways With No Refund or Support
On May 11, 2025, I purchased two tickets directly from Qatar Airways’ official website for flight QR242 from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen to Doha, scheduled for June 23, 2025, at 13:35. Just two days before departure, the airline unilaterally rescheduled the flight to 18:05 without my consent or prior consultation, disregarding passenger rights.
On June 23, we arrived at the airport at the new departure time, completed all check-in procedures, and boarded the aircraft. However, while taxiing to the runway, the captain suddenly announced that the flight was canceled. The aircraft returned to the gate, and no written notice, email, or text message was provided regarding the cancellation. The only explanation offered was that Qatar’s airspace was closed, yet no official documentation supported this claim.
Following the cancellation, no alternative flight was offered, no refund process was initiated, and no clear communication was provided. Airport staff simply told us to “call the call center.” Despite repeated attempts over several days, I could not reach Qatar Airways’ customer service. In Turkey, there is no local office, contact point, or representative available for assistance. As a passenger, I was left completely abandoned.
Due to this cancellation, not only was the outbound flight unusable, but the return flight was also wasted. Our entire travel plan was canceled, prepaid hotel bookings were lost, and we suffered significant financial and emotional distress.
Despite failing to deliver the promised service, Qatar Airways refuses to take responsibility, issue a refund, or communicate with affected passengers. This situation is a clear violation of the Turkish Consumer Protection Law, SHY-PASSENGER Regulations, and the Montreal Convention.
I demand the full refund of both the canceled outbound flight and the unused return flight, along with statutory interest for the delay. I also inform Qatar Airways that, due to its irresponsible and unresponsive behavior, I will escalate this matter to all relevant legal authorities without further notice.
