About a month ago, a crack appeared on the dashboard of my 2017 Kia Sportage, specifically on the passenger side where the airbag is located, and it has been slowly spreading. When I asked a technician at the authorized service center in my city, he said it was the first time he had seen such a case. However, considering the hundreds of similar complaints online, I believe this is a chronic issue, likely underreported at service centers because no one wants to pay the high repair costs. Despite the dashboard being made of the same soft-touch material throughout, the crack always appears on the right side near the airbag, pointing to a structural flaw. Sportage owners know that, unlike other brands, the dashboard is made of soft material—so how can it crack like hard plastic, especially when 30-year-old hard plastic dashboards don’t exhibit this? These cracks typically appear 7–8 years after purchase, just after the 5-year warranty ends, and service centers suggest costly replacements. After reading similar complaints and seeing the manufacturer’s indifference, I have no expectations from them, but I’m wondering if other affected owners would consider joining forces to seek legal recourse for what seems to be a defective product. Acting together could be more efficient and cost-effective than struggling alone. Let me know if you’re interested.
