Gate.io Forced Me to Pass Jumio KYC When Withdrawing My BCD Funds

August 17, 2025 5:17 PM135

I transferred my BCD to Gate.io after the BCD fork was completed. They did not ask me to verify my identity before or after the deposit. However, on August 15, 2025, when I tried to withdraw my BCD (just for memory purposes, since they are now worth nothing and have been delisted from Gate.io), they suddenly required me to complete a KYC procedure. The people replying to tickets seem either like robots or completely incompetent, as they do not address specific questions and only send copy-paste template responses. I discovered that this fraudulent organization forces customers to pass verification through a third-party entity called “Jumio.” They want to push users into giving this unknown private commercial entity access to their personal information, but no one knows who they really are or how they will use this data in the future. They could open accounts in your name on other exchanges or services, or even sell your documents on the black market—there are no guarantees. We all know about leaked private data (ID scans, selfies, etc.) from other platforms. I asked Gate.io about the security of my data, as well as corporate details of both Gate.io and Jumio such as ownership, addresses, and jurisdiction, but they gave no answers. These mysterious and suspicious people, hiding somewhere offshore in Panama, demand that you hand over all your private information while pretending it is for KYC and AML compliance to protect your funds. Yet, how can they prove that the person who deposited funds is the same as the one requesting withdrawal if they never required verification at the time of deposit? They avoid answering this because it makes no logical sense. Anyone with documents could pass such a meaningless verification—it could even be done in the name of a pet—but not necessarily by the real depositor. Their true goal is not security, but to lure out your personal documents with false assurances. Why demand such extreme checks when I clearly told them I want nothing more to do with them and only want to take back control of my BCD? Thankfully it was only BCD; it would have been much worse if it had been BTC or ETH.
