Europcar Dubai Charged Me After Deposit Refund and Card Cancellation
On November 27, I rented a car from Europcar in Dubai and paid the full rental fee upfront. They also blocked the required deposit amount on my credit card. I returned the car on December 1, and they confirmed that the deposit would be refunded—which it was. Up to that point, everything went smoothly.
However, a major issue arose in February. Despite having canceled my credit cards and switched to new card numbers, Europcar still managed to withdraw $235 from my account. I immediately disputed the transaction. When I contacted the company, they claimed this charge was due to fines related to toll or traffic violations. This makes absolutely no sense. If any such violation had occurred, they would not have refunded my deposit in the first place.
It is deeply concerning that they could access a closed account and charge without any prior notice or supporting documentation. I am demanding a full explanation and a refund of this unauthorized payment. Europcar must be held accountable for this breach of trust and financial overreach. I advise others to double-check their accounts even months after their rental, as these hidden charges can show up unexpectedly.
