Ecco Denied Defect Claim After Black Suede Shoes Bled Dye Onto Socks

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, I purchased a pair of black suede Ecco shoes from the Optimum Outlet Ecco store. Despite wearing the shoes for no more than one hour in total, I noticed upon returning home after the two separate occasions I wore them that my socks were stained completely black. Encountering such a flaw in a product sold at such a high price point by this brand was truly unexpected, as I never imagined I would receive a product this defective.
On my day off, I took the shoes back to the store and explained the situation. I did not claim the shoes rubbed my feet, felt tight, or were disliked; on the contrary, I explicitly told the sales representative that I was willing to exchange them for a different pair of shoes. Despite this, instead of taking custody of the physical shoes, they merely snapped a few photos to send to corporate for evaluation. After three days, they informed me that my request was rejected because the issue was allegedly "not production-related."
Following this, I asked why a shoe would bleed dye onto my socks like this, but I received an extremely inadequate and evasive response stating, "there is nothing we can do." While I recognize that the store representative is simply an employee with limited authority, as a first-time customer trying the Ecco brand, this experience has been a complete disappointment. If a shoe claimed to be free of manufacturing faults bleeds dye onto socks like this, there is clearly an inherent product defect, and the brand ought to stand behind its merchandise.
I demand either a full monetary refund for these shoes or an exchange for a non-defective product at the same price point. Having the brand refuse responsibility and leave the consumer wronged after experiencing such an issue in such a short time is unacceptable. I hereby state that I will take this matter to the Consumer Arbitration Committee and legal authorities if necessary, and I expect the brand to demonstrate a solution-oriented approach worthy of its reputation throughout this process.
