eBay Car Part Customs Tax Seems Unfair and Excessive
I would like to share the issue I experienced with the customs duty applied by Istanbul Customs, under the Ministry of Trade, on April 1, 2026, for an auto spare part I purchased through eBay. Although the product price was approximately $78, I was asked to pay $121 in customs duty. Being charged a tax amount higher than the actual price of the product does not seem reasonable or logically explainable.
This situation has placed me in a difficult financial position as a consumer and has created the impression that the tax calculation method is neither transparent nor fair. I have not yet filed an official objection, but I believe this tax amount is excessive and unfair.
I request a clear and detailed explanation of which items were included in the customs calculation and why the duty was set so high. I also ask that the tax be recalculated at a reasonable and proportional level based on the actual product value. I respectfully request that this customs duty, which exceeds the purchase price of the product, be reviewed and that my grievance be resolved.
