BYD Atto 3 Battery Failed Just After My Warranty Expired
In 2024, I purchased a new 2023 BYD Atto 3 from an authorized BYD dealership in Elazığ, Turkey. I have taken the vehicle in for all scheduled maintenance as required. I was informed that both the vehicle warranty and the 12-volt battery warranty were valid for two years. Shortly before the warranty expired, I experienced a steering issue. The steering component was replaced under warranty, and that problem was resolved.
However, about three to four months after the warranty expired, and approximately 10 days ago, the vehicle suddenly suffered a complete 12-volt battery failure while I was driving. The car would not start without warning. Because I had roadside assistance coverage, the battery was jump-started, and I took the vehicle to an authorized BYD service center the following day. The service center told me the battery had to be replaced at my expense and charged me for the replacement. During my visit, I was also informed that steering issues and sudden battery failures are common on 2023 BYD Atto 3 models.
While my steering problem was covered under warranty, the battery failure occurred suddenly without any warning and left me stranded. Had this happened in a remote or unsafe location, the consequences could have been much more serious. Although my vehicle is a 2023 model, I purchased it brand new in 2024 from an authorized dealer. Despite this, I was told the battery warranty had expired based on the vehicle's model year rather than the date I purchased and received the vehicle. This suggests the battery warranty may have started before the car was sold to me, which I believe is unfair.
I contacted BYD's customer service, and although I was told someone would review my case and get back to me, I have never received a response. I request a full refund of the battery replacement cost charged by the BYD Elazığ service center under service order No. 149226. I also urge BYD to investigate the reported steering and sudden battery failure issues affecting 2023 BYD Atto 3 vehicles, inspect affected vehicles at no cost, and replace any defective components under an appropriate service campaign if these issues are known to occur.
