Akbank Charged a Credit Card Fee Without My Consent and I Want a Refund
On February 14, 2025, ₺630 was withdrawn from my Akbank Classic MCD credit card ending in 9348. In accordance with legal provisions, I request a full refund without any conditions. Additionally, under Article 31, Paragraph 3 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 6502, dated May 28, 2014, credit card issuers are required to offer a card type that does not charge an annual membership fee or similar charges. According to Article 6 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 4077, amended by Law No. 4822, the membership fee charged by your bank constitutes an unfair term, as it is not in exchange for any service, is pre-drafted in standard contracts, and cannot be negotiated. Furthermore, based on the final ruling of the 13th Civil Chamber in case number 2011/4736 and decision number 2011/11579, as well as the General Assembly of Civil Chambers’ decision No. 2010/1-93-88, annual card fees charged retroactively must also be refunded. I request the refund of the ₺630 membership fee, including any applicable interest, and the cancellation of this charge. If my request is not fulfilled, I will escalate the matter to relevant authorities such as the Banks Association and the Consumer Arbitration Committee. I expect this issue to be resolved promptly.
