Adobe suddenly won’t open Photoshop, how can I restore my work without losing edits?

If Photoshop won’t open, first try renaming the settings folder (e.g. change “Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings” to “Settings Backup”) to force a reset of preferences.

If that fails, check your OS’s temp or AutoRecover folder for files ending in .tmp, .psd or .psb (e.g. Windows: C:\Users\[You]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\…\AutoRecover) and open the latest version in Photoshop.
