I spent £69 on a 23andMe kit because I thought it might provide me some interesting information about my family history and health, but the report I got was really basic. It hardly scraped the surface; it was incredibly general and sounded like something you could have read on a blog. The most annoying part is that they keep sending me emails attempting to get me to buy upgrades to get to the "real" content after I paid that much. Like, why wasn't that part of it from the start? You can't even tell what extra information you'd get before you pay more. No information about your family tree or interesting family breakdowns—just a lot of imprecise statistics and a forceful sales pitch. If you want to sample it, don't spend your money. It's more about pulling you into a funnel than giving you value up front.
