WeChat Created an Account Using My Phone Number Without Permission

This evening at 10:27 PM, I received a WeChat verification code by text message on my iPhone. WeChat was not installed on my device at the time, so I became suspicious and downloaded the app to try to log in using my phone number. However, I could not log in. I received a message stating, “This phone number was registered today. Please register with another number.” Even though the verification code was sent to me, I discovered that someone else had created a WeChat account using my phone number.

I later submitted an account recovery request through the app, but my appeal was rejected, and I received a message saying, “Too many requests have been submitted. Please try again later.” I also cannot fully understand the recovery process because options such as friend verification and many of the instructions are in a foreign language, leaving me unable to recover the account.

My phone number has been used to register a WeChat account without my knowledge or consent, which creates a serious security concern. I request that the account created using my phone number be immediately closed, that all access and connections associated with my number be terminated, and that my phone number be secured so that only I can use it to create a new account.
