My Volvo EX30's Auto Park Feature Crashed Into a Pillar It Never Detected
While using the automatic parking assist feature on my Volvo EX30 in Izmir on June 9, 2026, I got into an accident. The vehicle detected the parking spot on its own and began the parking maneuver, then struck a pillar that had been standing in place there the entire time. I was in the vehicle during the incident, but the vehicle was performing the maneuver on its own.
After the accident, I took the vehicle to the Arkas dealership in Karşıyaka, Izmir. Following an inspection there, I was told that there was no systemic fault or error, and that everything was normal. I then reported the situation to Volvo Car Turkey, and they similarly stated that no systemic fault was found in the vehicle.
I'm currently expected to cover the cost of the damage resulting from this collision. However, I believe that the system failing to detect an existing pillar and causing the vehicle to crash while using the automatic parking feature is not a user error, but rather a system-related issue. For this reason, I am requesting that the full cost of the damage be covered by Volvo, and that the matter be re-examined thoroughly and impartially.
