Upwork Translation Job Fraud — Redirected to Fake Payment Channel

32

I was contacted via Telegram by someone claiming to represent Upwork and offering me a translation project. After I submitted the completed work, I was redirected to another channel for payment. They then asked me to open a bank account, saying the payment would be deposited there and that I would later need to transfer the funds.

The money did appear in the account, but the transfer couldn’t be completed. I was then told that I needed to purchase an IMF code for $100 in order to release the payment.

This clearly appears to be a fraudulent scheme, and the person’s Upwork name is Dl***. If there has been any security breach, I will report the matter to the relevant authorities. I’m sharing this to warn others and to ensure such scams are investigated.
