Someone asked me to work outside of Upwork to get paid — how can I report this?

If a client asks you to work or get paid outside of Upwork, it’s a violation of the platform’s Terms of Service, and reporting it helps protect your account and funds. Here’s how to do it properly:

• Save the evidence: Take screenshots of any messages, emails, or files where the client invites you to receive payment externally (via PayPal, bank transfer, crypto, etc.). These are essential for Upwork to take action.

• Report the message directly: In the client chat, click the three dots (…) → Report message or Report client. Briefly explain that you were asked to work outside the platform, and attach the conversation if possible.

• Official form: Go to https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and select Trust & Safety issue. Describe the attempt to move payments off-platform, include the client’s name, and specify the message date.

If the platform doesn’t respond or the case remains unresolved, file your complaint on Xolvie to document the situation and receive support until your account is secured and the client is properly investigated.
