Taco Bell Charged Me $33 and Only Refunded $20 for the Wrong Order
On September 16, 2026 at around 6:59 p.m., I went through the drive-thru at the Taco Bell in Alton, Illinois and placed an order for a melt steak burrito and nacho fries. The employee repeated my order back to me correctly. When I pulled up to the window, I handed over my card and received it back with a receipt, but then I was handed a bag full of tacos that were not my order. I told the employee this was not what I ordered and gave the bag back. Another employee came to the window and told me they did not have an order for a melt steak taco and fries. I explained again that the first lady had repeated my order correctly, but the second employee spoke to me as if I was lying. At this point Taco Bell had already charged me $33, even though my actual order did not even cost $10. When I asked for my money back, the employee simply said, “Well I don’t know what to tell you.” I told her I wanted a refund, and she said okay. I asked for my original receipt, but she refused to give it to me and instead told me I could take a picture of the receipt she was using for the refund. I took the picture and checked my account, and I can clearly see Taco Bell only refunded about $20 instead of the full $33 that was charged. I have my bank statement and transaction history showing the $33 payment to Taco Bell, a screenshot showing only a $20 refund pending, and a copy of the refund receipt from the restaurant confirming that only $20 was refunded. Throughout this whole process, no one apologized, and the customer service was extremely poor and dismissive. I felt disrespected, accused of lying, and left without my full money back or the correct food. I am requesting an immediate full refund of the entire $33 that was taken from my account and not just the partial amount that was refunded. I also ask that the district manager responsible for this location be held accountable and either terminated or formally disciplined for the way this situation was handled, and that the staff at this store receive serious training on honesty, respect, and basic customer service.
