Ryanair Charged £75 for Cabin Bag at Boarding Gate

On September 26, 2026, I was charged an unfair fee for my cabin baggage on Ryanair flight RK 8604 from Edinburgh to London Stansted. My cabin bag complied with the airline's carry-on size requirements, and at the boarding gate, following the staff member's instructions, I placed it into the metal baggage sizer provided by the airline. Although my bag fit inside the sizer, I was charged an additional £75 simply because part of its wheels remained outside the measuring frame.

I had checked all of my cabin bag's dimensions before traveling and confirmed that they complied with the size limits stated by the airline. Despite this, at the boarding gate, I was forced to pay the fee even after objecting, without any flexibility or a clear and reasonable explanation being provided. This caused me financial loss as well as significant frustration and distress during my trip.

Another issue I experienced that same day was that the same RK 8604 flight departed from Edinburgh approximately four hours late. Because of this delay, I was unable to use a high-speed train ticket I had purchased in advance, resulting in an additional loss of £45. I was not provided with satisfactory information about the delay or any meaningful compensation for the resulting expenses.

I do not accept the way Ryanair applied its cabin baggage policy in a manner that I believe unfairly disadvantaged me as a passenger, nor the failure to address the additional expenses I incurred because of the significant flight delay. I request a refund of the £75 baggage fee that I believe was unfairly charged, as well as the £45 cost of the unused high-speed train ticket resulting from the delay. I also request that Ryanair make its baggage inspection and flight information procedures fairer and more transparent to prevent similar issues from affecting other passengers.
