Honor Magic 8 Lite Water Damage Despite IP68 Rating
On April 18, 2026, I purchased an Honor Magic 8 Lite through Hepsiburada. I specifically chose this phone because Honor heavily promoted its IP69K and IP68 water resistance ratings during the product launch. Trusting those claims, I used the phone in a swimming pool for only two or three minutes to take a few photos. The device had no scratches, impact damage, or signs of misuse, yet water entered the phone during that brief use. What makes this even more concerning is that the phone's original factory software includes both an Underwater Camera Mode and a Speaker Water Ejection feature. It is unreasonable for a manufacturer to advertise and include these features, then blame the customer when the device suffers water damage under normal conditions.
I took the phone to the authorized KVK Ankara service center, where it was inspected under service record #2602824232. Instead of honoring the advertised protection standards, the service center classified the issue as liquid damage and issued a repair estimate of approximately $782—nearly twice the retail price of a brand-new phone. Under Turkish Consumer Protection Law No. 6502, defects that appear within the first six months are generally presumed to have existed at the time of sale unless proven otherwise. Despite this, my warranty claim was denied and the device was treated as being outside warranty coverage.
During this process, I communicated directly with both Honor customer support and KVK service representatives. Even though my phone is only about two months old, covered by an official warranty, and supported by proof of purchase, KVK ignored the warranty and demanded a repair fee that exceeds the cost of buying a new device. Honor's support team also relied on template responses claiming user error instead of properly evaluating the warranty claim. Refusing to honor the official warranty while demanding a repair cost higher than the phone's purchase price has caused me significant financial loss and disappointment.
As a loyal customer whose family has owned a total of eight Honor and Huawei devices over the years, I am not asking for compensation or anything beyond my legal rights. I simply request that this defective phone be replaced with a brand-new Honor Magic 8 Lite of the same model, regardless of color, and that my issue be resolved without further delay. I expect Honor Türkiye and KVK to provide a prompt and fair resolution while honoring my warranty rights.
