Europcar Charged Me 2 Extra Days After I Returned the Key at Düsseldorf Airport

April 9, 2025 8:53 PM23

We rented a car from Europcar at Düsseldorf Airport in Germany and returned it without any damage. We parked the car in the designated Europcar lot in the early hours of the morning, but none of the nearby offices were open. We knocked on the doors of several Europcar offices—no one answered. We even went to the main office in the terminal three separate times. In the end, with no staff in sight, we left the key in a clearly visible spot: right on top of a keyboard in front of a camera.

Despite having all our contact information, no one from Europcar called us. Instead, they silently deducted two extra days of rental fees from our deposit. When we reached out to ask why, they claimed, “We couldn’t find the key for two days.” That’s simply not believable. Are they saying no one used the computer for two whole days? That excuse makes no sense and is not acceptable anywhere in the world.

We are requesting a full review of the security camera footage, which will clearly show when and where we returned the key. If they issued this charge despite finding the key on time, there are legal consequences. We’re prepared to pursue this further through legal channels and share our experience widely, including on social media, unless this unjust charge is reversed immediately. Europcar must take responsibility and correct this wrong.
