Dyson Asked Me to Pay Almost the Full Product Price for a Vacuum Repair
In March 2022, I purchased a Dyson V8 cordless vacuum cleaner through Hepsiburada, with Dyson Türkiye listed as the seller, for approximately $103. I bought this product expecting long-term durability and reliable performance because Dyson products are marketed as premium appliances.
For nearly two years, I used the vacuum regularly while carefully following all maintenance recommendations, and I had no issues during that time. However, on May 13, 2026, the vacuum suddenly stopped working after the motor began making an unusual noise.
After experiencing this issue, I contacted Dyson customer support and was informed that I needed to send the product to service and that the repair cost would be approximately $99. I then emailed Dyson to ask why such a high repair fee was being requested for a product that was already expensive when purchased and whose warranty had expired only one year earlier.
In response, Dyson stated that cordless vacuum warranties begin from the original purchase date and last for two years, and that once the warranty period ends, standard paid repair services apply. I was also informed that contacting them through different communication channels would not change their decision.
Considering the original purchase price of the product, the relatively short period of use, and the careful maintenance I provided, I do not believe it is fair to charge a repair fee that is almost equal to the original cost of the vacuum for a motor failure occurring after such a short time.
I respectfully request that Dyson Türkiye reconsider this situation in the interest of customer satisfaction and provide a free repair for my Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner.
Progress
I purchased the Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner in March 2022 through Hepsiburada, with Dyson Turkey as the seller, paying approximately 4,699 TL, expecting long‑lasting and trouble‑free performance. I used the device regularly and carefully for about two years, performed all maintenance without omission, and experienced no issues during that period. However, on May 13, 2026, the device began emitting an unusual motor sound, operated intermittently, and within a short time became completely inoperable.
After the problem occurred, I spoke with Dyson customer service, who informed me that I needed to send the device to service and that the service fee could be around 4,500 TL. I then contacted Dyson by e‑mail, asking why a product sold in the premium segment at a high price would suffer a motor failure only about one year after the warranty expired and why a repair fee close to the product’s price was being charged. The response I received stated that the warranty period for cordless vacuums is two years, and once that period has passed only standard paid service support can be provided.
Subsequently, a customer representative called me again and asked me to replace the pre‑filter and try the device once more. Despite purchasing a new pre‑filter as suggested and testing it, the problem was not resolved and the device continued not to work. Considering the product’s price, the length of use, and the care I gave to its maintenance, I do not find it fair that a motor failure occurs so soon and that a service charge nearly equal to the product’s price is demanded.
The failure of a product marketed with claims such as “long‑lasting performance,” “powerful motor,” and “premium quality” within such a short time has seriously damaged my trust in the brand. I request that Dyson Turkey reevaluate the situation under the umbrella of customer satisfaction and provide free repair or a free replacement for my device.
After our complaint, a Dyson customer representative contacted us. They told us to replace the product's filter. We changed the filter, but the problem still persists. We reported again that the issue continued after the filter replacement, yet they again said "motor failure" and tried to direct us to service. It is absolutely unacceptable that after performing all maintenance on the motor of a three‑year‑old product, it fails, they accept no responsibility, and they charge us a service fee equal to one‑third of the product's sale price! I urgently demand that Dyson officials take responsibility for this issue!
I bought my Dyson V8 vacuum in 2022 from Hepsiburada for ₺4,699 and used it without issues for two years. On May 13, 2026, I experienced a motor noise problem and the device stopped working. The Dyson customer representative asked me to send the product to service and pay a fee of ₺4,500. Even though the warranty period had expired by one year, I requested a free repair, but I only received a response stating that the warranty was over and there was nothing they could do. So far, no solution or response has been provided.
