Duolingo Never Sent the Promised Free Trial Reminder

June 28 9:11 PM

While using Duolingo's free trial, the app clearly stated that I would receive a notification before the trial period expired. Despite that promise, I never received any reminder or warning before my free trial ended.

On June 27, 2026, I received an instant notification from my QNB Finansbank banking app informing me that approximately $42 had been charged to my account. When I checked the details, I discovered that as soon as my free trial expired, my subscription had automatically been converted into an annual plan and the payment was processed without asking for any additional confirmation.

As soon as I noticed the charge, I canceled my subscription that same day, June 27, 2026. I had originally started the subscription on my Android device. To resolve the issue, I first reviewed Duolingo's Help Center and then followed the instructions to submit a refund request through my device. No customer reference number or order number was generated during this process, and this is the first time I have experienced anything like this.

I believe I was treated unfairly because I never received the promised notification before the free trial expired, and my account was charged for an annual subscription immediately after the trial ended without any additional confirmation. I respectfully request a full refund of the approximately $42 that was charged to my account. I also ask Duolingo to provide clearer and more transparent notifications regarding free trial expiration and automatic renewals so that other users do not experience the same problem.
