BioGaia Protectis Causes Severe Gas and Distress in Newborn Baby
On January 14, 2025, because my 20-day-old baby was experiencing severe gas pain and straining, I started using BioGaia Protectis probiotic drops based on the recommendation of our pediatrician. I purchased the product from Soydan Pharmacy on Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Street in Çankaya, Ankara. However, I do not believe the issue is related to the pharmacy.
We used the probiotic for only two days, but the experience was so negative that I wish we had never started it at all. Compared to before, my baby began experiencing much more severe gas pain, waking from sleep crying, straining intensely, and turning bright red. Sleep periods became very short, there were long and intense crying episodes, and we were unable to calm the baby or get proper rest. Considering how extremely sensitive a newborn’s body is, the thought that this product may have worsened my baby’s discomfort and pain has been deeply upsetting for me as a mother.
Because of this experience, I believe that BioGaia Protectis drops should be evaluated very carefully and under strict supervision for newborn babies, and from my perspective, it is not a product that should be used in newborns. I want to prevent other families from going through a similar experience, and I request that my complaint be taken seriously, and that the product’s ingredients, dosage, and possible side effects—especially for newborns—be reviewed again.
