Asics Shoes Wore Out in 3 Months, Mall of Istanbul Store Misled Me on Warranty

I purchased this pair of shoes at the end of April. I also work in retail, and in our brand, certain areas of shoes — like stitching and glue lines — are not covered under warranty. I explained this to the staff member at the Mall of Istanbul Asics store when I was buying the shoes. I specifically asked: “I also work at a sports store. In our brand, these parts aren’t under warranty. If I have a problem, can I bring them back?”

The employee assured me that the entire shoe was under warranty for 2 years, and that in most cases (70%) the outcomes were favorable. Trusting that guarantee, I paid ₺6,800 for what I thought was a quality pair of shoes. Yet after just three months, the shoes began to wear out. I want to emphasize this: in today’s Turkish economy, I trusted the employee and the brand enough to pay ₺6,800, and I ended up with a pair of ultra low-quality shoes.

I returned the shoes to the store for inspection. Six days later, I was told there was no manufacturing defect. When I went to collect the shoes, I explained the situation again to the staff. They remembered me and admitted they were the ones who had told me about the warranty, though they weren’t the salesperson. Then, they misled me again by saying that if I contacted customer service, I would definitely get a positive response.

So, I called customer service. Instead of offering a solution, they simply recited shoe care instructions to me, as if I wasn’t already aware of them. They promised to get back to me — but the so-called premium brand didn’t even bother to follow up. Today, when I called again, I was told once more that there was no problem with the shoe.

At this point, I am preparing to file a complaint with the consumer court. Please don’t take this as a threat; it’s simply the next legal step. I am writing this publicly so everyone can see how little Asics stands behind its products.
