I purchased a Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 through Trendyol, and from the very first use, the filter emitted a smell similar to limescale. At first, I assumed this might be normal and did not pay much attention to it, but within a short time, the odor became extremely strong and unbearable.

As a result, on March 4, 2026, I sent the product to the Xiaomi ESC Metrocity Levent authorized service center for inspection under warranty. The device remained in service until March 30, 2026, when I was contacted. During the call, I was told that the filter was the source of the smell and that I would need to pay approximately $80 USD for a replacement filter.

I explained that the odor had been present since the first day of use and requested that the issue be evaluated under warranty. The service representatives initially suggested it might be a humidity-related smell, then said it was not humidity, and later mentioned that carbon filters can sometimes produce odors. However, when I asked directly whether the carbon filter was the cause, they stated that it was not, but insisted that since the filter is considered a consumable item, nothing could be done under warranty.

Despite the filter showing 78% remaining lifespan, the service report stated that the issue was “due to the filter’s usage life.” This implies that the filter reaches the end of its life within just one month of use, which is clearly inconsistent and unacceptable.

Due to these contradictory and unsatisfactory explanations, I requested that the existing filter be properly examined. However, the service representative responded, “If you want, that’s the price; if not, we will close the case and return the product.” When I stated that I could purchase a filter myself and that my main request was an inspection of the current filter, the representative replied, “We’ll just close it and send it back—you can do whatever you want,” and hung up on me.

The service record/work order number for this case is ASTR260330000000242. I also contacted Xiaomi’s main customer service to report both the service staff’s behavior and the refusal to handle the issue under warranty, and I clearly requested a free filter replacement.

Given that the product has had this issue since the first day and considering the unacceptable service experience, I request that the defective filter be treated as a faulty product and replaced free of charge. I also request that my complaint be reviewed and that my inconvenience be properly addressed.
