Recent studies (2024) did find trace amounts of metals like lead and arsenic in multiple tampon brands, including Kotex, which raised global concerns.
However, these studies did not prove that these metals are released during use or absorbed at harmful levels, and regulators like the FDA are still investigating the real risk.
Kotex and its parent company state that they do not add heavy metals to their products and actively prohibit them in manufacturing, suggesting any traces may come from environmental factors like cotton sourcing.
Health authorities still consider FDA-regulated tampons generally safe when used as directed.
