I Face FedEx Charging Extra Fees On Duty Free Book Import
My book order worth €142.30 was shipped to me via FedEx with tracking number 870386753406. Today, I was informed that because the shipment arrived by road and their sorting systems are not available, simplified customs declaration procedures cannot be applied. Therefore, I was told that I must proceed through a customs broker.
However, books are generally tax-exempt, and requiring a customs broker in this case creates unnecessary costs that completely defeat the purpose of that exemption. This requirement places an unfair financial burden on me as a customer. It is also unreasonable that, due to the shipping method and FedEx’s internal processes, I am being denied the simplified procedure that should normally apply.
So far, I have not made any additional payments, but I have been told that I must proceed through a customs broker. I request that FedEx process this shipment under the simplified procedure, taking into account the tax exemption for books, and ensure that my items are cleared and delivered without forcing me to incur unnecessary brokerage fees.
