ChatGPT Insists on a Wrong Answer for a Simple Geography Question
I used ChatGPT today for a question about geographic information, and I found that the answers it gave were clearly incorrect. When I asked which district of Eskişehir borders Kütahya, it insisted repeatedly on the answer "Sivrihisar," even though I pointed out that the correct answers were Seyitgazi and İnönü. I also mentioned that Odunpazarı was a neighboring district, and it rejected that as well. Being given incorrect information with such confidence, on a topic as clear and verifiable as geography, was both misleading and unsettling to me.
I am requesting that ChatGPT provide more reliable, sourced, and verified information, particularly in verifiable fields like history and geography, that these kinds of errors be reviewed and corrected, and that a system approach be adopted that clearly warns users whenever there's uncertainty.
Progress
I experienced an annoying memory-related issue while using ChatGPT through the mobile app. Earlier, I told it the name of the metro line in my Minecraft world and explicitly said “save to memory” to have it store this information. At the time, I thought it had saved it.
This morning around 09:40–09:45, when I asked a question about the same line, it said it did not remember the information and responded that it was a fictional line in the Minecraft universe. Forgetting a piece of information it previously knew and that I explicitly asked to be saved, and then mentioning unrelated names such as Kartal, Yakacık, Pendik, Tavşantepe, Kaynarca despite not knowing the name, was a very disturbing and trust‑breaking experience.
I want the app’s memory feature to work properly, with the information we tell it to “save” being retained permanently, and for such incorrect, unrelated guesses to be corrected. I also request an explanation regarding this incident and that the necessary improvements be made.
