BYD Seal U DM-i Gas Engine Failed at 25,000 Kilometers
I purchased my BYD Seal U DM-i brand new from the BYD Köşkdere dealership in Çorlu, Tekirdağ, around June/July 2025. On June 17, when the vehicle had only 25,000 kilometers on it, the check engine light came on. From that moment forward, the gasoline engine stopped engaging altogether. I can now drive the vehicle only in electric mode, with a driving range of approximately 50–80 km (31–50 miles) depending on driving conditions. The gasoline engine also no longer generates electricity to recharge the battery.
I took the vehicle to the dealership's service department on June 18. They told me they had inspected the vehicle and resolved the problem, then returned it to me. However, less than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) after leaving the service center, the check engine light came back on. I immediately returned and realized that the fault code had apparently been cleared without identifying or repairing the root cause of the problem.
At first, I was told the required replacement part would arrive at the BYD Tuzla facility in Istanbul within one week. After that deadline passed, I called again and was informed that the part was actually unavailable in Turkey, would need to be shipped from China, and that I would now have to wait 30 to 40 days. Even after more time has passed, I still have not been given a realistic repair date or a permanent solution.
I know that a service case has been opened under my name, but I was never provided with a repair order number or any service reference. I believe the service team has not properly diagnosed my vehicle, has not thoroughly investigated the underlying cause of the failure, and has handled the issue without the level of care and technical expertise that such a serious problem requires.
I request that BYD promptly diagnose and permanently repair my vehicle, provide a realistic timeline for obtaining the necessary parts and completing the repair, and keep me fully informed throughout the process. I also ask that my vehicle be inspected by an experienced technical team and that appropriate steps be taken to address the inconvenience this prolonged repair has caused.
