AZAL Airlines Imposes Arbitrary €70 Luggage Fee After Accepting Same Bag Days Prior

Prior to our Baku–Ankara flight J2 8003 on April 12, 2026, I experienced severe distress during baggage check-in due to the behavior of a female staff member. A piece of luggage that we had brought onboard without any issues on a flight with the same airline just two days prior was refused entry for this flight.

When we went to check our luggage, the employee spoke loudly in front of everyone, stating she could not accept the bag and that we could not board with it, even going so far as to accuse us of outright lying. Despite showing our previous baggage receipt and explaining that we had flown with the exact same suitcase two days earlier without issue, she refused to listen, repeatedly interrupted us, and communicated only by shouting.

Even after we presented our baggage tag, she ignored it, adopted a degrading tone in front of nearby passengers, and although she called other staff members over, she did not allow them to actually resolve the problem. Throughout this entire process, instead of taking a constructive approach, she maintained an accusatory and insulting demeanor.

As a result, despite AZAL Airlines having accepted the same bag on our previous flight, we were unfairly charged an additional €70 fee due to their own operational inconsistency and staff error. We suffered significant distress from both the rude, offensive attitude and this unjust fee.

I expected respectful, receptive, and professional communication from the staff of a corporate company like AZAL Airlines. Due to this negative experience, I demand that the necessary investigation be conducted regarding the employee involved, that a written apology be issued to us, and that appropriate compensation be provided to resolve our grievance, including a full refund of the unjust €70 fee.
