Apple ID Password Recovery Delay

I've forgotten my Apple ID password, but I have my phone and a recovery email. I was told to wait 24 hours, even though I have both of those things. After a while, I got an email telling me I had to wait another week. Why does Apple take so long when even banks send account recovery links in a very short amount of time these days? I need to get to my password right away because of an emergency, but I can't find it. I think that these things can be done in a short amount of time and that customers shouldn't have to wait for a long time, which can make them feel anxious when they don't need to.
