WhatsApp unknown +60 number asked for bank info, what’s the safest way to handle this?

If someone on WhatsApp with an unknown +60 number (Malaysia) asks for your bank information, you should be very wary. This isn't usually how legitimate institutions ask for private financial information; they usually do it through official, secure methods.

Do not use WhatsApp to send your account number, PIN, verification codes, or OTPs to other people. If someone asks for codes during a "screen share" or video call, that's a red flag. Scammers use these to steal your information or take over your account.

If they say they are from your bank, hang up and call the bank at the number on your bills or on their website, not the number they gave you on WhatsApp. Always check someone's name in a different way, like calling the bank's call center.

Report the person on WhatsApp and block their number right away. For extra safety, make sure you have two-step verification turned on for your WhatsApp account.
