Planet Fitness Remote Membership Cancellation

I joined Planet Fitness for six months and was hitting the gym hard for a few, like, three months straight. then hurt my ankle in Walmart on April 29th, totally sidelined me from working out. Since I couldn't use the gym anymore, I figured I'd cancel my membership. Called them up and explained the whole thing, they said in return, you can only cancel IN PERSON at the gym, walking into the gym is a no-go for me right now. I told the customer service person this whole situation, hoping they'd be cool about it, but they wouldn't budge. Apparently, gotta show up in person, no exceptions, A little flexibility would've been nice, especially considering my bum ankle and the fact that I was a paying customer!this whole thing could've been avoided if Planet Fitness wasn't so strict.
