I placed a standard Instacart order and noticed a service fee on top of the delivery fee. Why do they charge on top of delivery?

The service fee funds Instacart's shopper operations, insurance, background checks, and customer support. The service fee is not a tip and does not go to the delivery shopper. Location, number, and type of items in the cart affect the service fee. Members of Instacart+ pay less for services.

If necessary, Instacart may charge additional fees beyond the service fee. Long-distance service fees may apply to delivery routes over 30 minutes or with tolls. Customers who choose priority delivery windows during checkout pay more for shorter delivery windows. Some retailers charge a pickup fee, similar to a delivery fee.
