IKEA Refused to Honor the Warranty on My Sofa After Only 11 Months
On December 28, 2023, I purchased an ARMREST ESKILSTUNA SOFA (three-seater) from the IKEA Bayrampaşa Store. The independent reclining seat sections of the sofa have collapsed. Additionally, the frame makes creaking noises, and the zippers on the foam sections of the backrest malfunction, causing the foam to be exposed. Despite these defects, IKEA classified the issue as user error and excluded it from the warranty. They suggested I repurchase the defective parts at an additional cost, which is unacceptable given that the sofa is only 11 months old. When I requested an expert evaluation, IKEA assigned an expert without informing me it would be a one-time service. The expert classified all issues as out of warranty in an unfair and biased manner. IKEA refused my request for a second evaluation and did not provide me with the original expert report, keeping it for themselves. The report also failed to mention any issues with the frame. When I inquired why the frame, which has a 10-year warranty, was also excluded, I was told, "We examine the sofa as a whole, and your sofa is entirely out of warranty." This response was both inappropriate and unprofessional, disregarding the product's valid warranty terms. I emphasize that the frame has a 10-year warranty and the foam sections have a 2-year warranty. I have already submitted a complaint to the Consumer Arbitration Board, requesting an independent expert evaluation. Serap E***.
